big business in children's clothing industry

Children’s Clothing: The Big Business

I didn’t realise quite how booming the children’s clothing industry was until my daughters got to the age of appreciating fashion. My girls are only nine and eleven years old. They’re already scribbling down items of clothing on their Christmas lists, rather than toys and other things you’d expect. Now we’re not just talking any clothes. My girls are into children’s designer clothing, from luxury kidswear brands such as:

  • ilovegorgeous
  • Little Marc Jacobs
  • Petit Bateau
  • Ralph Lauren,

and by all means, the clothing had better match. I’d rather encourage my daughters to buy clothing on sale or from discount stores. This helps to keep the expenses down, but as you can imagine is not always possible!

Many mothers I know have started their own children’s clothing home business to try and keep the expenses to a minimum. Others have started blogs like this one and built partnerships with retailers and brands, and on occasion get sent clothing to review which, when lucky, they get to keep. When talking about parents starting their own clothing business at home, by this I mean, buying in quantity from children’s clothing manufactures and selling the clothing online, such as on internet auction sites like a Ebay. You can sell new items that you purchase for profit or you can sell slightly used items that the children have worn. This is a great way to earn a little extra income while keeping your fashion princesses in clothing. Some even make clothing and sell on sites like Etsy. This is a win win situation as not only are they making clothes their kids can wear, but they are able to sell them too for some extra cash to buy nice new clothing from designer brands that their children love.

There are now tonnes of independent and cool childrenswear brands, originating from creative parents, and are all companies that make a substantial income from selling clothes. So why shouldn’t you do the same? If you’re buying stock in bulk from manufacturers, all you need to get started is a camera, a computer, and either experience setting up blogs or websites, or a friend who might be able to help.

As we all know, the internet is a great place to find children’s clothing. You can find anything from designer children’s clothing to cheap, or handmade children’s clothing. There are all types of children’s clothing stores on the internet that sell wholesale clothing also.

So if you have one or more mini fashion guru’s in your household now, think what it will be like when they become older. You may want to become a retailer and cash in on this booming business of children’s clothing also.
